The Free State of Bavaria aims to end diesel operations in Bavarian local rail passenger transport (SPNV) by 2040. To align with the climate goals of the Free State of Bavaria and simultaneously replace diesel operations, the network "Bayerwald" (RB 35, 36, 37, and 38) will be operated with emission-free battery trains. The goal of the measure is to convert the non-electrified network "Bayerwald" to climate-friendly battery trains (BEMU Battery Electric Multiple Units) by 2034. The intended operational concept requires various infrastructure expansions in the rail network.
The scope of this tender includes phases 1-2 and the stepwise/optional commissioning of phases 3-4 + 6; for the (partial) electrification and equipping the "Bayerwald" network with an overhead line island system and the necessary structural adjustments to the technical track equipment, bridges and crossings as well as passenger transport stations to operate the Bayerwald network with BEMU vehicles.
