Slovenské elektrárne (SE) currently operates one battery storage (BESS) site at Dobšiná, has two more battery storage sites under construction at Nováky and is considering further investments in battery storage. SE would like to maximize synergies between the existing spinning resources they have in their portfolio and between the newly emerging battery storage sites. The potential for economic synergies is in two areas:
1) Trading on the interday market
2) Provision of ancillary services
However, to realise these economic synergies, charging strategies are necessary which would both enable the hybrid unit to be certified for ancillary services provision under the technical conditions of the Slovak transmission system operator SEPS and will optimise battery cycling. Considering the size of the BESS being considered at the Čierny Váh site, SE would like to investigate whether the solutions available on the market have the potential to realise technical and economic benefits that are significantly larger than the currently implemented BESS management principle at the Dobšiná site.
