Medium-voltage systems and charging facilities

VBK - Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe GmbH is building a covered e-charging and parking facility with 32 spaces for articulated and solo buses (W34) with its own transformer system (W34) in Karlsruhe (Rheinhafen), on the site of Wikingerstrasse 13, as part of the new construction of a central car workshop with bus depot for AVG and VBK.

The construction site can be reached via the Südtangente (B 10), Honsellstrasse and Wikingerstrasse.

All properties at Wikingerstrasse 13, including the existing Holzbogenhalle building, will in future be supplied with electricity via a central transformer station (W36).

For the provision of solo and articulated buses, a covered e-charging and parking system (W34) is planned on the southern boundary of the property. It offers 32 parking places/bus loading port for 12 articulated and 20 solo buses.

The transformer system to be offered and newly built (W35) is exclusively assigned to the bus parking W34 and consists of two building parts which are combined into a combined building. Two cast resin transformers with an output of 1600 kVA each are planned. W35 is supplied and controlled from the already installed transformer system W36 from the medium-voltage side via an MS ring line.

The charging infrastructure for the 32 electric buses and other commercial vehicles with electric drives is also to be built.

A total of 32 charging points with 75 kVA each are to be supplied at the same time and, if necessary, sequentially at the peak with 150 kVA. From the W35 e-charging station, the rectifier cabinets in MODE 4 supply individual charging depot boxes in the W34 bus depot with DC charging current. The charging process is to be controlled by a charging management system.

The connection to the individual charging points in bus depot W34 outside the W35 charging station is made via the cables laid in cable trays. Corresponding communication and data lines are laid in addition to the energy cables.
