The University of Zaragoza, for the development of research lines carried out at the Aragón Engineering Research Institute (I3A), needs to expand and update the high-performance scientific computing infrastructure of this institute to meet the increasing processing requirements arising from currently ongoing research projects and new strategic lines identified by the research groups. Specifically, the supply of a high-performance computing system is required, which includes at least one compute node equipped with 4 large-memory GPUs (greater than or equal to 96GB) and six nodes with 2 GPUs each, also with large memory (greater than or equal to 96GB), as well as the necessary interconnection elements for its integration with the current HPC systems of the institute. This acquisition will enable projects that require intensive computing power, especially in areas such as deep learning and artificial intelligence, advanced numerical simulations, analysis of large volumes of data, or computational modeling, ensuring the scientific competitiveness of the university and the adequate provision of services to research groups. The infrastructure will allow the development of large-scale deep learning models and complex models such as comprehensive digital twins to offer personalized medical treatments, highly demanding methods in computational capacity and memory through the use of GPUs. All infrastructure nodes will be interconnected through a high-capacity network to minimize computation latency and maximize efficiency. This communication network must be perfectly integrated with the rest of the infrastructure elements to achieve maximum efficiency. The new computing system, by integrating with the current HPC service of the Institute, will optimize costs and cover the computational needs of multiple groups from the Biomedical Engineering Division and the Advanced Personalized Medicine Laboratory, the entire institute, which includes 34 recognized research groups, and external groups, leading to highly competitive and excellent multidisciplinary research. The suitability of the proposed contract responds to the need to provide the center with updated and homogeneous resources, with compatible components and guaranteeing a comprehensive solution, both at the hardware level and integration with the existing infrastructure, all essential to ensure the system’s operability, performance, and energy efficiency.
